The Australian Shepherd is a brilliant, tireless herding dog that needs a job as much as it needs food. Highly trainable and quick to read its handler, the Aussie excels at agility, obedience, herding, and complex trick chains—few breeds learn faster. That intelligence is a double-edged sword: without daily physical and mental work it becomes hyperactive, noisy, or destructive, and its herding instinct can turn into nipping and chasing.
