Rhodesian Ridgeback Training
The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a powerful African hound bred to track and bay lions, and it retains a strong-willed, independent character. Loyal and dignified with its family, it is aloof toward strangers and has a considerable prey drive, so early socialization and consistent training are essential. Intelligent but not eager to please in the retriever sense, the Ridgeback needs a confident owner who makes training rewarding and worthwhile rather than repetitive. It requires substantial daily exercise. Firm, fair, reward-based handling brings out its best. Properly raised, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is an athletic, devoted, and quietly protective companion for experienced owners.
